Being a Phlebotomist

Being a phlebotomist is sure different from any other job I’ve ever done. I like the saving lives. I like knowing someone with cancer, low iron, low blood, etc. is getting something they need.

I work for a non-profit blood bank called Blood Assurance. Our corporate office is based in Chattanooga, TN. Plus we have centers in Alabama,  Georgia, and of course, Tennessee. I work in the Northeast Tennessee territory. We have 4 offices here. Abingdon, VA, Bristol, VA, Kingsport, TN, and Johnson City, TN. We also have 2 mobile buses that go to different businesses, hospitals, Walmart, Walgreens, etc. doing mobile drives. We also have 2 huge mobile drives at East Tennessee State University, Science Hill High School, etc. We do blood drives at to local hospitals which are Johnson City Medical Center and Franklin Woods hospital.

I have worked several mobile drives. They are great because we can get people to donate blood while doing their daily shopping, visiting sick friends and family in the hospital.

The entire process from start to finish is usually 30 minutes maximum depending on how many donors are ahead of you.

I donated recently and have the video posted on my YouTube channel. I have, so far, donated 1 gallon plus 1 pint.

I hope this will maybe encourage you to donate 30 minutes of you time every 56 days to help save 3 adult lives or 6 babies’ lives as we are low on blood supplies most of the time.

I do thank you for taking time to read this blog and to consider donating.
